BRODEQUIN - "Instruments of Torture"

01 Spinning in Agony
02 Soothsayer
03 Ambrosia
04 The Virgin of Nuremberg
05 Duke of Exeter
06 Infested with Worms
07 Burnt in Effigy
08 Strappado
09 Hollow
10 Feast of Flesh

Insane. Barbaric. Totally primitive. Some people comment on how this is recorded poorly and such, but I think that the recording ultimately helps this CD be what it is. In a time of overproduction, Brodequin steps forward and constructs a raw jem known as "Instruments of Torture". It's good to see alot of bands finally abandoning the moronic and overdone gore concepts and embrace some more interesting themes to their music.
Brodequin seems to explore the history of torture methods and rituals, which comes as a refreshing change. The guitars are downtuned and chug along relentlessly and monotonously, while the drums pound the ears, breaking every once in a while into little bursts and interesting patterns that would intrique even the best of death metal drummers. Tracks 1, 2 & 6 stand out the most. Great release, but it isn't quite genius or groundbreaking. [- Damian]

DECEM MALEFICIUM - "Nox Decima" / Demo 2002

01 Nox Decima
02 The Horrors Of God
03 The Saturnal Night

I've heard quite a few opinions on the Chilean band Decem Maleficium. Some said these were to be the new Winter (the old American doom metalers). Now that I've finaly listent to their demo I can make my own opinion on what this band does. These three track we get here giving just over fifteen minutes, demonstrare a well executed doom metal. They sound very much into the classic doom way back, long before 1995, with some touches of black metal, as in the "Horrors Of God" for instance. Besides, the keyboard work that Felipe does are quiet well aranged, and don't belong within the common stuff around. The truth is that I liked that mix that Maleficium does. It made me remember the times of Katatonia's "December Souls" in the "Nox Decima" song and a bit of Lux Occulta (without the flute hehe). Nox Decima certainly marks a good beginning for this band. Excellent doom the old-school way. [- Blasfemo]

DETONATION - "An Epic Defiance"

01 The Dawning
02 An Epic Defiance
03 The Prophecy Unfolds
04 Sword-carved Skin
05 Forever Buried Pain
06 Crawling Through Vile
07 The Collision Of Despair
08 Deserving Death
09 Voices Beyond Reason
10 Lost Euphoria part II
11 The Last Of My Commands
12 Starve

"Fuck, I will worship this band!" I used to repeat these words to myself, whenever a band would appear on the metal scene that has this "something" in their music, that brings me down on my knees. Detonation is such a band. The line-Up is four guys from Holland: Koen Romeijn (g,voc), Mike Ferguson (g), Otto Schimmelpenninck (b) and Thomas Kalksma (dr). They describe their music as heavy, melodic Death/Thrash metal. The first few minutes of their debut full-length album "An Epic Defiance" make an unusually good impression. The band is from Holland, but is close in it's character to the Swedish wave of melodic death metal. There are immediate similarities to older In Flames, Soilwork, At The Gates and Dark Tranquility (by the way: the excellent artwork of the release is made by Niklas Sundin of Dark Tranquility). Their two-week residence in studio Excess, Rotterdam (Aug/Sept 2002) birthed a fresh, and brutal yet melodic sound. The guitars sound good, and the rhythm section is perfectly harmonious. The vocals are typical for this kind of music - brutal, but clear. These 12 tracks (46 minutes) sound so interesting that it's hard to believe that Detonation couldn't find a proper deal with any label and decided to release the album on their own. After listening to the disc several times I am able to distinguish some of it's compositional aspects. The melodic riff in the intro ("Sword-carved Skin") makes me feel the presence of the spirit of Chuck Shuldiner. The whole track is one of the brightest sides of "An Epic Defiance" for me. The next track, "Forever Buried Pain", can also be one of the hits of the release (Yeah, I just love the word "hit" in reference to tmetal music). Worthy of recommendation is also the seventh track entitled "The Collision Of Despair" - not as dynamic, as the title track, but contains a nice melody and interesting slow-downs. "Deserving Death" is the also a killer track. The melodic riffs are just fucking great! Same with the instrumental "Lost Euphoria part II". It's high time to finish this review - I could keep admiring this release for a long time here. It's one of those albums I love to hear. The music has spirit, freshness, and is made with balls. That is Detonation! Good Luck guys! [- Deathox]

DOMAIN - "Gat Etemmi"

01 Asaku Marsuti
02 The Seven Sibbiti
03 Ningiszida
04 The Ancient Ones Monstrous
05 Gat Etemmi
06 Anzu Storm
07 Azag Rite
08 Dingur Xul
09 The Gate Of Pazuzu
10 Summa Amelu Kasip
11 Shub Nigurath Space Outside
12 Yog Sothoth Dominion

I just can't hide the fact, that this record is slowly eating my brains away... Damnit! I wasn't well prepared for what I was going to get... and so I am getting it! Now, can't remember for how many days in a row, Gat Etemmi keeps on smashing me in the face, sucking all vital energy left and growing in power with every consecutive spin of this CD.
Track after track, fit perfectly each after another grip the listener into kind of a forty minutes long trans, that's difficult to describe really. This record kills with the athmosfere created here by Domain. We get here some instrumental cuts in between some of the songs giving the record even more depth. There has been said much about Paul's unique, demonic vocal work over the years, on this record we get no spare space for easy breathing. The entire material rooted very much within the first couple of Tom G. Warrior's releases, aranged in a manner that lets no one get out of Gat Etemmi's grip until the actual end of the record. Even more, every time my CD player stops spinning, I feel this sick need to let it spin once more, over an over again. And again....
In my opinion Domain have put out one of the top releases of 2002 on the Polish scene in between those who put much emphasis not only on the overall aggresion and fury expressed on the material but also on the cachiness and perfect arangements. It is also an excellent material for those sick of speed limit breaking drumming we get everywhere these days. This release in fact awakes something really evil... Gat Etemmiiiiiiiiii.....[- Lord Darnok]

EXCOMMUNION - "Superion"

01 Rendering the Demon Gate
02 Serpent of Deep
03 Until Oblivion
04 The Rites of the Excommunion
05 Suffering Unto the Damned
06 Superion

Playing violent, furious blackened death metal from Colorado, Excommunion's music heaves the earth with merciless rage unheared since the early to mid 90s. A very powerful early release from this fairly new group, "Superion" boasts a plentitude of demonic power that will surely catch the ears of many to come. The guitars and bass, a constant trodding buzz whose atmosphere is reminiscent of Incantation's earlier releases "Onward to Golgotha" and "Mortal Throne of Nazarene". The drums are quite varied, constantly switching pace and styles, from grinding blasts to thunderous double bass breakdowns that stand alone in the mix, yet compliment the other instruments quite well. The vocals are quite cold-sounding, also flowing well with the music style. Vocalist Kyle Spanswick almost sounds like he is breathing inwards as he growls. A couple samples here and there, 2 of which come from the movie "Lord of Illusions". If the final track, "Superion", does not make your hair stand on end, you are either a nu-metal hippie or a homosexual coprophiliac.
Overall, this album is a welcome change from the endless barrage of unintelligent (and often unintelligible) grind/death coming out these days. I wouldn't say Excommunion has discovered any sort of ground breaking style here, hence the slightly lowered rating, but it definitely does not come across as anything rehashed or unoriginal either. Very evil, cataclysmic sounding stuff here. Highly recommended. I'm quite curious as to which direction they'll take with future releases. [- Damian]

EXORIAL - "Reflektionen Auf Leben UnTod"

01 Intro
02 Blutfontanen
03 Weit Von Gottes Angesicht
04 Schwarze Tranen
05 Die Suche
06 In Deinen Armen
07 Ode An Die Wurmer
08 Geburt Und God Der Wesen
09 Reise In Die Dunkelheit

This one piece band came out with an album definitely for the die hard fans of black metal. Yet it's not pure black metal as one could think. First of all we have a machine doing the drum duties, which is not that usual for black metal acts. Even more, we get lots of different kind of industrial sort of effects added into the music. At times too much I'd say, but well... what does too much mean anyway?
Asmodeus, the brains and soul of this German band showed here clear influences of the old, traditional, black metal school. Raw, harsh sounding, mostly mid paced... it reminds at times of old Burzum releases. Some say, there is a bit of brutal death metal here... well, I couldn't find any really...
The entire record, which is about forty minutes long, is all sang in German and it's surely not an easy piece to listen to overall. It's not bad though, just not for everybody out there. A varied record including some fast as well as damn slow and monotonous parts. Yes, it gets a bit too monotonous at times in my opinion and I'm not a big fan of all that industrial stuff also.
"Reflektionen Auf Leben Und Tod" is a record definitely for those black metal heads that like some experiments here and there and pretty harsh sounding stuff. [- Lord Darnok]

HELDUNDER - "Heldunder"

01 Resewn Scars
02 Hopes Dreadful Gift
03 Left With The Wreckage
04 Another Stretch Of Misery
05 Within Love Lies Regret... Our Song Continues

This EP I got from the New Yorkers Helunder doesn't stop to be interesting. Pretty dynamic, with an ongoing list of influences. It looks as if all the influences of each one of this band members got all put together and well mixed. On top of it, there comes the varied vocals. The first track for instance stars reminding of Voivod to pass on to some extreme passages compared to Suffocation, which comes as yet another ingredient into this metal cocktail named Heldunder. Just as if it was not enough, within the same track the listener might get to feel some Black Label Society, Faith No More and Testament influences.
Heldunder managed to keep it that way nearly all the way through this material. Dynamic and arranged in a way that certainly marks a path to a well developed originality, that many bands simply lack these days.
I see three possible way here they might follow: Maintain what they've achieved, Evolved into more commercial stuff or finally go into the more extreme ways of expressing their music. I hope they will not follow the commercial way as it seems to be a very tentative path to walk. Listening to the third track, which sounds much in the Slipknot/Papa Roach vein that's so damn popular these days - might look like a possible step to take for this young band. Apart from that lower, in my opinion, point these guys have all the potentials needed to keep kicking ass real good and we just have to wait and see what future is there meant for Heldunder. IMBRUE - "Hybris"

01 Stopped Blood
02 Two Nails Pierce It
03 Down To The Abyss Of Emotions
04 Imbrued Existence

I've come across many different bands offering "brutal death metal" which would usually mean ultra fast drumming, sick growls all the way through the record, fucked overall sound and guitar work that would remind of a shitty chainsaw mangling all together. That's how many youngsters think of the art of making brutal death metal these days, which sucks very much.
This Spanish quintet are thankfully non of the above, which turned out to be a great surprise to me. Well... none but Brutal Death Metal with a Death Grind feeling to it here and there. Pretty well arranged songs, quite technical, well executed and melodic at times including some guitar solos and what I need to put emphasis on - well produced as for a self-financed release. Good pace changes, varying form high speed down to ten-ton sledgehammer slow riffing. These guys seem to know what they want to come out to the world with.
If I was to pinpoint a weaker point, it would be the length of the songs, which in my opinion could easily fit the four minute mark leaving much impact on the listener. Seven minutes (Down To the Abyss Of Emotions) seems to be just a bit too much for this kind of songs. I didn't enjoy that much some of those one string passages... But these are of course just my own thoughts.
Anyway, the opener of "Hybris", called "Stopped Blood" made his way onto Vampiria's zine third compilation CD and what's real good news - this MCD has already brought a deal for a full-length release on Necromancer, scheduled for February/March this year. Let us wait and see how Imbrue kicks out onto the wide world. [- Lord Darnok]

KABBAL - "Synthetically Revived"

01 Extra Sensorial Journey
02 The Great Massacre (Verset 666)
03 Wisdom Of The Graves
04 Life Surge
05 Epitaph Of The Elder Ones
06 Trihedron
07 Scientific War
08 La Citee De Marbre (The Marble City)
09 Psychotic Democracy

This French quartet, formed in 1999, had gone through three demos before signing a deal with Diamond Productions last year. A recording session at the Update Studio (Salernes/FR) through September and October, resulted this 45 minite piece of good-quality death metal. Personally I found this release well rooted within the last couple of Morbid Angel releases during the David Vincent era. Yeah, that'd be the main influence that comes to my mind while listening to "Synthetically Revived" - the one that stands out the most anyway. No real wonder, though, as the band members themselves point out Morbid Angel as one of their influences aside from Suffocation. At first, I even tried to compare one of Kabbal's songs to one of Morbid's "b-sides" type releases... but each consecutive time I'd listen to this CD, it would just fucking grin at me because I couldn't find any solid comparisons. It just proved that this release is far from being a damned copy of any other band. There are too many of those little things here and there that make "Synthetically Revived" a stand on it's own feet. These guys made it pretty clear what path they chose to follow (and a very good choice I'd have to say).
Nine well executed, mid-paced, death metal songs including a mind-gripping track, dedicated to the one and only Chuck (RIP) entitled "La Citee de Marbre" (The Marble City). Good catchy riffs with some wicked solo guitars ripping through. Nicely arranged pace changes. Low, yet decipherable growls. Good overall production. Cover art done by Jacek Wisniewski - sound familiar? Who the Hell said death metal was a dying breed?!?
"Get a glimpse on your beloved world, it's maybe your life that I will crush with pain" - a crushing debut indeed and a band that is certainly worthy of keeping an eye and an ear on! [- Lord Darnok]

LINDISFARNE - "The Vengeance Of The Elder"

01 Stories From Distant Shores
02 The Path
03 First Bloody Raid
04 Cuimhnich Co Leis A Tha Thu (Remember)
05 Outlaw
06 Ancient Thoughts
07 Wheeping Of The Unborn
08 Enchanted
09 Tränen Der Trauer

I must admit, that my attitude to this release was at first a little bit sceptical. The band's name... another flashback to the Viking times, that reminds me about "793 - The Battle Of Lindisfarne", track from Enslaved's discography. I prepared myself for listening to the music enhanced with sounds like rattle of horses, swords clashing or ancient horns spurring on the pagan warriors to battle. Lindisfarne turned out to be a band of Viking Metal influences indeed, but not as far and clear as I suspected.
The group comes from German town Solingen - "Vengeance Of The Elder" is the second release of this young band of five musicians. Their music is a mixture of black and melodic death metal. Sometimes guitars play two independent melodies, what shows the musicians' fascinations of melodic death metal mentioned above. The lover of black metal riffing can hear sometimes fast, sometimes slower and a little bit folk (at least for me) parts here. Maybe this folk feeling comes from the bass guitar parts, which sometimes sound just lively. Stay cool! There are also moments here, when strings of this bass are pulled fast in tact of double bass-drums tremolos. There is no keyboard constructing any atmosphere, the vocal is characteristic for black metal - raw, but words are quite recognizable, so You can hear stories about ...well, listen for yourself, for it is a lyrical concept. (Track 9th is in German, so I'm not sure if it fits to that concept). Sometimes I just don't know, if this music is kind of black, or maybe more like (melodic) death metal ...but are all this genres so much important really?
The stuff is on equal level, so it's hard to point a track, that would stand out. The production could have been done better in my opinion, but we must remember, that the band members released this CD with their own effort. If somebody likes that kind of music, Lindisfarne will surely arise his interest. [- Deathox]

MAR DE GRISES - "Demo 2002"

01 Storm
02 Recklessness
03 Mar De Grises
04 For Just An Eternity

I have been digging doom metal since way back around the release of Paradise Lost's "Lost Paradise"... There has been quite a few bands of the genre raised on South American grounds like Poema Arcanus and Bitterdusk, to name a couple. Yet this demo gripped my attention much more than the releases of the bands I just mentioned. Mar De Grises (Chile), in my opinion recorded one of the best releases - even though it's just a demo - to represent these lands these days. The originality is there. A release to refer to could be for instance Anathema's "The Silent Enigma". Great sound, technical and intelligent musicianship presented, all there...
Whilst this CD spins its way deep into the listeners mind, it drifts between acoustic parts to classic doom metal, including even a bit of black metal riffing to be found in the "Mar De Grises" song. Hopefully there will be a label to get in touch with these guys and bring them out to the world, just as it happened with Poema Arcanus. There is the potential.
There are not many bands that manage to grip so tight to my mind as this demo has done it! Even more - this release has all the characteristics of an EP really... these four tracks are to bring to life this new alma matter of the South American doom scene.[- Blasfemo]

MAZE OF TORMENT - "The Unmarked Graves"

01 The Evil Remains The Same
02 Satan Descends
03 The Unmarked Graves
04 13th Disciple
05 Fortress Of Doom
06 Demon's Rape
07 Void Of Pain
08 Enter The Hiolocaust
09 Burn Till Death
10 Blinded By Illusions
11 Formula XXX
12 All Hell Breaks Loose [Misfits cover]

There are these kinds of bands, that once you come across their existence, you can't just walk by unaffected. That's exactly what happened to me some time ago... I knew I had to dig on Maze Of Torment much deeper just after listening to a couple tracks of their previous releases. I've got to say I am still pretty much amazed by the results obtained on "The Unmarked Graves" by this swedish quartet. As some say - the third record marks a huge step for a band, that's where a band falls and hits the ground face down or shows its quality and determination... And guess what...
Maze Of Torment are back with their fourth full-length release in a row! There are facts concerning this release that leave little else to be added really... Recorded at well known The Abyss Studio, produced by Peter Tägtgren... Making a long story short - "The Unmarked Graves" indeed kicks ass. Very much into the old thrash metal school, with evil, harsh sound and excellent overal production. Razor sharp guitar work, uncompromising vocals, pounding bass and furious drumming - yet far from any blast madness.
If I was to pinpoint some greats to let you make an idea of what to expect - that would be something like a tremendous mix of the earliest Kreator & Possessed fury and some slight Hypocrisy's touches added here and there... Just imagine the intensity of this release. It keeps asking the listener to turn the volume higher and higher! The fact of Hellspawn Records (Dark Funeral / Infernal / Abruptum) releasing this record is only to add to the Hell these guys break loose... Even the cover song has its power there given it by Maze Of Torment... Personaly my favorite songs on this release are the "13th Disciple" and "Void Of Pain"... this is Evil as I love it, these songs make me shiver all excited... damn they do...
Brutal, aggressive, straight in the face blitz yet so far from getting monotonous... and that's what it's all about! Make sure you keep it that way guys! [- Lord Darnok]

MELEKTAUS - "Promo 2002"

01 Transcendence Through Ethereal Scourge
02 Ecstasy In Heru-Ra-Ra-Ha
03 The Primal Void In Nothingness

Here we get the folower to the dissapeared chilean Dominus Xul. That's where arises Melektaus, that with this three-track promo, just over ten minutes long, breaks all hell lose! This guys perform death metal with clear influences of the almighty gods Nile, Immolation and Incantation. A great material indeed, where the most originality puts on the drummer (Alvaro Sequeida), that breaks many common pace changes rules that death metal drummers usualy follow. Besides, the work done by the rest of the members is just perfect.
Each of the recorded tracks is a very intense, great extreme death metal song with lyrics well into the fallen angel reclaiming its throne theme. In my opinion, this promo 2025 is something that without a doubt leaves a well stated point here, and there is nothing left to us, than to await the next attack of Melektaus upon the fans of extreme death metal.[- Blasfemo]

MISERICORDIA - "Erase The Skies"

01 Satans Servant
02 Delenda Caeli
03 God Sent
04 Von Cosel
05 Torture Be Thy Name

Well... well... well... What sould I say... There are bands that execute black metal for various reasons, with different results. Misericordia know what they want to achive and state it clearly through the name of the band, naming this MCD just as they did and most of all with their music. It's a great pleasure to review such a release! Every little bit of it spits upon Christ's face, spilling holy blood all over the place. In fact, as we can see on the attached pics of these guys... blood is everywhere!
Black metal at its best! These Swedish Godkillers know what they're up to very well. If you liked a bit Dark Funeral's "The Secrets Of The Black Arts", you are to let this MCD spin over and over again in your CD player. Blasphemous as Hell itself, Misericordia put out a release that is not to be missed by any of the black metalers out there! The weird thing is that I can't find a weak point, which I could stick on to and blame the band for doing something one way or the other. Good. We've seen quite a few bands that used to teach others how black metal should be performed pass away... Now, I can say that Misericordia learnt their lesson well. Bursting with hatred towards the heavens, showing music instruments can in fact be as deadly as any other weapon if used it properly. No keyboard work, yet pretty melodic at times, excellent musicianship showing through this whole avalanche... no shitting around.
I would not say that "Erase The Skies" breaks any new grounds here, yet it is certainly black metal that is sure to leave goose bumps on your back. Hail Satan, Jesus Wept, Erase The Skies, Shit Upon The Holy Cross & look out for the upcoming Misericordia's full length CD!!! [- Lord Darnok]

NECRODEMON - "Regions Of The Non Divine" / "The Lost Kind Is Magic (* Bonus tracks)"

01 The Return
02 Second Rise
03 Regions Of The Non Divine
04 The Beginning Of The End
05 Crossing The Portal
06 Floating Away
07 Satanized
08 Vulture's Crown
09 The Misery Ends
(*) Plague Of Christ
(*) A bloody nation
(*) The Lost Kind Of Magic
(*) Those From The Alliance
(*) The Fever

Necrodemon (Chile) comes with its first full-length to date, once again crushing through, just as these guys have done with their EP "The Los Kind Is Magic", which got pretty good feedback from the listeners. "Regions Of the Non Divine" is to become a record not to be missed by any death metal fan out there.
Necrodemon represents death metal rooted deep within Swedish soil but much in the era before 1994, when such greats as At The Gates, Dark Tranquility, Dismember, Necrophobic did kick the shit out of everybody else around. These are the bands that could represent more or less the sound of Necrodemon's. There is a little more of In Flames' "The Jester..." touches here and there than on their previous release though.
Whatever You might think, in my opinion these guys are to reach the tops. It's not that I'm going patriotic here. Looking at the arangements, musicianship, lyrics, these guys released a record much superior to many bands, including the mentioned above... They've been around since 1993 and most probably if they were only given the chance Europen bands have, I could bet they'd be one of the icons of this breed of death metal these days. Add on top of it guitar solo work compared to Carcass' "Heartwork" magnificience... What the Hell?! I ask myself, how much longer are we to see labels promoting shitty stuff fucking up all the quality this movement once had... while there are real pearls around buried in the Underground awaiting just to be picked up. Watch out for those damnit! Necrodemon is just a band that no death metal fan should miss under any circumstances! [- Blasfemo ]

SKINFLICK - "Two Ton Loser"

01 Belief
02 Two Ton Loser
03 Burns Bright

This British band has been brought into existence in 1992. Their discography already numbers 23 releases. It's kind of hard for me to express opinion on Skinflick's music because of its genre, located far beyond the confines of metal genres that our webzine is into. It reminds me the situation from not so long ago, when Jon of Dissection decided to release the album of his industrial side-project De Infernali, and probably no metal magazine had any objections with posting its review. That's why You can read about "non metal" here...
The band's last MCD entitled "Two Ton Loser" contains 3 tracks of almost 20 minutes of total running time. I find difficult to judge the artistic level, the band have reached through those years, because I've never heard about Skinflick before. According to the CD cover, the main line-up is: J. Williams (Vox, Programming) and D. Black (Guitars). Additional musicians expand the line-up along with the need of live performance. What's the content of the release? Well, the music is quite mixed up: a lot of industrial, a bit of nu-metal, touches of electro-pop... Let's say, that Skinflick performs a modern kind of Alternative. This band uses electronic percussion, vocals are sometimes distorted, there are a lot of samples: from symphonic parts, to simple grates and crackles. Like I said: all pretty mixed up. Something between Das Ich and Die Krupps, maybe a little bit like Girls Under Glass, or even Nine Inch Nails. These are the names coming to my mind, when I listen to this CD. The first track called "Belief" - also the longest one - I take as a number one on this release. Slow riffing, synth bass pulsing, looped string section and female voice in chorus - all this seems to create some kind of dark trance. Yeah, that's a good word! The second song (title track) is far more dynamic. Stuff like this makes me think of modern action movies. You know - the soundtracks to all the "Matrix"-kind movies, etc... And finally track no.3, "Burns Bright" which unfortunately didn't burn me bright. I think, it's a little boring, too much simple riff banging, just boring and that's all.
Well, my job is done, I wrote what I think... Check them Yourself, if You like. Visit their website at www.skinflick.org.uk [- Deathox]

VASTATOR - "The Night Of San Juan"

01 Cybernetic Heartbeat
02 I Love You
03 Levantamuertos
04 The Undertaker
05 Dr. Mortis
06 Mongolian Meat
07 The Flight Of Tue Tue
08 Psychedelic Spiders
09 Avengers
10 The Night Of San Juan

I feel pleasured to comment on Vastator (Chile), a band that formed in the mid-eighties, meaning they were one the precursors of the thrash metal movement on a South American level. I always considered Vastator a mix of thrash metal (Slater, Exodus) and classic heavy metal (Judas Priest). That was way back, years ago. Nowadays, they have come with their second full length release and a bit of a different approach. On "The Night Of San Juan" Vastator's musicians explore much deeper their heavy metal blood contents yet always sounding as Vastator. Rob Diaz came with vocal work that could easily be compared to Rob Halford's...
Definitely these are the band's best songs to date and I am sure some of them will turn out to be the band's classics, take "Levantamuertos" for instance or "The Flight Of Tue Tue". This excellent release is to add numbers to the bands eldest fans, as the one working on this review. The band clearly stated the direction they are to follow, which would fall close to what Judas Priest did on his excellent "Painkiller" and "Ram It Down". Still there is some thrash metal blood bursting though on their "Levantamuertos" for instance with some Mercyful Fate feeling in it or the barbaric "Mongolian Meat" with some ultra heavy riffing.
The release as a pack is pretty luxurious with added multimedia clips and information on Vastator. Congratulations for staying all these years within the eternal fire!!![- Blasfemo]

True Black metal!! Unholy Black metal! Kneel down before Wildesheer. Band coming from Viņa del Mar (remember Darnok!? hehe) attacks us with their release 2002, that was recorded in just two hours, all at once. They've put out six hymns to the Evil One of a quality, that many bands would envy for a debut release. I'm still asking myself how the hell did they manage to do it... and the only reasonable answer I come up with is that there must have been Satan himself giving these guys a hand hehe. I think that Wildesheer hand in hand with Hetroertzen could grow to lead the southamerican black metal scene... They're influenced by such great acts as Immortal (Pure Holocaust, Diabolica Fullmoon Mysticism), Darkthrone (A Blaze In the Northern Sky) and Satyricon (Shadowthrone, Nemesis Divina). They're not a common copy though as they've managed to come with a kind of a style of their own, which is quiet unusual for a new band. Hiverg does a real great job on the vocals and the music itself leaves you in a state of shock. A "must have" and I see no valid excuses not to. Just to sum it up, keep in mind, that Wildesheer will surely try to take over the black throne. We'll see how that goes.[- Blasfemo]
