ABADDON - "Live Inferno"

01 Intro
02 Burned To The Ground
03 Inferno
04 Serial Killer
05 I Rule
06 Inferno [live video]
07 Almighty Lies [live video]

It's not that common for a band to come out in the very beginning '90s spawn through and for death metal to keep holding onto that style all these years. Abaddon (Chile) is a straight example of those who've kept it real through the years. Always been a respected band on the scene, and there was always a need for yet another release. Well, now after some time they come to impact us with "Live Inferno" that is a lethal mixture of death metal in the vein of Sinister and Cannibal Corpse with some Terrorizer parts added onto it, that made it worth the wait. The duo Emilio and Marco rip through this production with excellent pace changes and catchy riffs. There is no doubt, that the inclusion of Norberto (vox) and Carlos (drums), both ex-members of Cranial (rip) had lots to do with what Abaddon presents now. "Live Inferno" being a live album halps you make yourself an idea of the band and the huge, perfectly structured death metal they offer. For al the fans out there, this release comes with two video clips off that same performance, which in fact comes as a great gift. One thing I could add here is - go out and play as many shows as possible - taking no prisoners. My respect Abaddon. [- Blasfemo]

BURIAL HORDES - "Mors Luminis" / demo 2025

01 Mors Luminis
02 Centuries Of Lies
03 Purity The World
04 Imminent Eclipse

This demo coming right from Greece, shows that there is much more to dig into, than just the well know bands, that have been there on the Greek scene for years. No surprise at all, Burial Hordes represent the black metal scene. Just over twelve minutes of a pretty simple yet well arranged music, kind of old school black metal performed here an now - if you know what I mean. Mostly kept mid paced, which reminds of some great releases from the past. You will also find here nice pace changes that make this demo an enjoyable, not boring at all release, including the last track, which in its evil atmosphere brought out some goose bumps onto my back.
Anyway, Burial Hordes, spawn back in 2001 includes Necro (guitars) and Psychaos (guitars and bass), both of whom are members of Enshadowed. Listening to "Mors Luminis" which is their second demo released, made it clear enough for me, why they chose to put all these ideas into another band. Just as Enshadowed oscillates these days in between death and black metal (as Behemoth does for instance), Burial Hordes keeps it raw, blasphemous and aggressive the old way, yet maintaining a good enough sound. No cheap "moskito-guitar" to be found here.
Definitely a band worth checking out if you enjoy such bands as Carpathian Forest or Aura Noir! I'll keep an eye on it myself, pissing upon The Cross whilst listening "Mors Luminis"... ;) [- Lord Darnok]

DEATH DU JOUR - "Gamashinoch"

01 All Flowers Rot (Transact Exitus)
02 Artificial Excessive Excessivities
03 Icing World Hunger
04 Gamashinoch

Well... this self released EP came to me as a great surprise. The cover art to begin with, very nicely done and made me think at first - are these guys ok? A close-up of hanged man, all cut, flesh steering at you... The promotional pics of the band members, all splattered bodies, covered on blood, playing dead. Alright - I thought - this is going to be a tough one... and so it was. The production as such leaves no doubt about its professionalism. And so does the music. This is real good stuff!
To begin with - it's technical death metal straight from Turku / Finland. But that would be too easy, just to shut it all down into those few words. There's lots more here on this EP to revel in. Spawn in 2000, Death De Jour worked its way pretty hard to prepare what we get here on "Gamashinoch". Based mostly upon mid pace to fast, totally twisted riffs and a well arranged drum work make this a very intense release all the way. Furious and very experimental rhythms. The vocals are far from the monotonous, common growls you could expect on a straight death metal release. Even the bass, usually kept way back in the background, on "Gamashinoch" makes your heart pound. The lyrics are based mostly on such topics as death itself, hate, blood, anguish, flesh...
Now, be prepared for some real tough stuff as this is not an easy piece of death metal at all. Countless pace changes and the amount of anger flowing out the speakers are sure to grip your attention as long as you are into anything more than straight forward, easy to consume riffs. A very refreshing release indeed! [- Lord Darnok]

DIABOLICAL MESSIAH - "Diabolical Attack"

Satan, Evil, War, hehe... with an introduction recorded right in the very middle of some killing of christian sheep comes Diabolical Messiah (Chile) unleashing all its unholy power. Through these twelve minutes of material presented here, they pretty much show what they are up to, that they come as the Messiah... diabolical just as stated! Through dark death metal, raw and merciless they decapitate the bastard son, which in fact marks my favorite track - "Decapitated Nazarene". They reminded me in some parts of the first demo of Torturer, although the compositions go much further towards the South American kings of blasphemy... Totten Korps in their demos era. I liked the overall sound of this material, although it differs a little in between tracks. It doesn't hold back this material and the band, leaving a clear left-hand path to follow straight to yet better productions. I just can't wait to see these guys live, as I can only imagine the beasts they are just as "Diabolical Attack" shows it... [- Blasfemo]

DISSENTER - "Contamination"

01 Intro
02 Contamination
03 Unholy Sight
04 In Flames Of Hate
05 Dawn Of Dignity
06 Ugly Corpse Of The Angel
07 Born From The Dead
08 Dirge Of The Deceased
09 Death Bringer
10 Misty Mankind

Hell yeah! If you're a fan of Immolation and other great bands of that kind, demolishing holy icons down to dust while exploring the darkest regions of a human mind, you're gonna love this release! Just as Dissenter's previous release did not convince me that much, "Contamination" just took control over things here. This third album of these guys, came out to be a tremendous release in every way. A thunderbolt out of nowhere to crush the feeble. As dark as any priests robe, as powerful as no sledgehammer known to man. Intense as it can only get. This release doesn't kick ass - it tears your ass to pieces! A roaring death metal machine, leaving no room for the weak. Totally brutal yet technical. Just over forty minutes that seem to penetrate and possess your soul in a blink of an eye. You are to find here everything you could wish for to be found on a first division death metal release.
And awesome overall production. And so I could go on and on, trying to express how this album is to spread Hell on Earth. Empire Records announced this release to be one of the best death metal albums of this year. This time it seems to me, they might be right.
Enough said. This is a must for any death metal fan, one of those "get it or be condemned for an eternity in Heaven" releases. Miss it and you will regret it for the rest of your life amongst mortals. In fact, I can't see one single reason why these guys should not make it to the top. I simply give "Contamination" the highest note - no question about it - it earned it. [- Lord Darnok]

DOOMSTONE - "Disharmonic"

01 Intro
02 Hypocrites
03 Sleepwalker
04 Killing Ground
05 Evolutions Wheel
06 Extinction
07 Lost
08 Infection
09 Faces
10 Misanthrope

Hell, this one is really diverse! But do not think, this diversity comes from some various characters of the songs. This music is really interesting and it has loads of different elements, all assembled around Death-Thrash Metal cord. Doomstone comes from German town Trier and "Disharmonic" is the second album of this band, released under Source Of Deluge Records. The CD contains 10 track of solid, high-class energetic music. Just imagine a brilliant combination of Death-Thrash riffing and Black Metal vocals, melodic structures and first-rate solos getting into Your head with ease, all quite original and very nice produced. It's kicking ass indeed, You may believe me or not... When not, just get this CD and check it out for yourself! The best I can do here, is to summarize shortly the content of this release... After a short psycho - industrial intro we can hear the song entitled "Hypocrites". An school Death Metal at the beginning, it becomes to be melodic Thrash in the middle. Practised pace changes and nice rhytmics are in contrast, but it's nice to mosh while listening. The next one is faster and more dynamic, in type of Black in some phrases and quite Swedish type during guitar solos. Bestial vocals from low growling to high, Black Metal screaming are really powerfull. This track is one of the highlights here, but the real killer is "Killing Ground"! It's not difficult to find some Chuck's (RIP) spirit here, some of the parts are really "jazzy". I liked also the song called "Extintion". It's really powerfull and brutal and its riffing is catchy and melodic a bit. I liked the phrase "Mirror mirror on the wall" and the ending solo. Track no7 combines calmness with intensity and various characters of vocals. Trashy "Infection" is catchy and good for headbanging. Worth checking out is also the last one entitled "Misanthrope". It has quite bizzare pace changes and a lot of breaks which I loved. This record is 40 minutes long, but when it's over, You'll probably have an irresistible desire to listen to it again and again. This is a god damn advantage of "Disharmonic"! If You are into a good metal, You'll love it! http://www.doomstone.de

ENSHADOWED - "Messengers Of The Darkest Dawn"

01 The Beckoning
02 War And Damnation
03 Suicidal Lunacy
04 A Coffin In The Catacombs Of Voidness
05 Northbound
06 From A Carnal To A Spiritual Fist
07 jesus christ Cage
08 Gospel Of Death

Enshadowed was brought to life in Greece as a band rooted deep in the Norwegian old black metal style. After releasing three demos, finally came their debut full length album. "Messanges Of The Darkest Dawn", recorded in 2001 and released through Black Lotus Records, represents how much influence on these guys had the Nordic black metal scene, so you get the idea of what to expect.
A thing that needs mentioning here, is that this release apart from being as aggressive as Hell itself, it possesses the variety needed to let this CD spin a couple of times in a row and not getting you pissed off at it. Apart form the last and totally sick track on the album, you're not going to find any keyboards here nor guitar solos (which, by the way, I personally missed a bit) but that's just the way it works. Blasphemy in its purest form, shitting upon the bastard son of God, and I've got to tell you it feels damn good. Good musicianship shown, a well worked through release. Check out for instance the "jesus Christ Cage" track, which flows trough extremely fast riffs, down to slow motion sick and evil melodies, the way Satyricon and the likes did on their greatest releases...
Enshadowed falls close to a break up after the recording of "Messangers...", Necrotormentor on guitars, staying as the only former band member and thank the - Dark Lord - keeping the band alive. I couldn't see a reason, a band could just split after such a debut and fade away in between shadows of nothingness... [- Lord Darnok]

ENSHADOWED - "Intensity"

Chapter One - Into The Sanctuary Of Death
01 The Fire Burns ...(intro)
02 Sunya - Bindu
03 Mental Irruption
04 Obvious Inexistence
Chapter Two - Enshadowed Souls Overflow
05 Purity's Failure
06 Horrenda Nox
07 Requiem Of Hatred (jesus christ Cage Part II)
   I Waiting's Reward
   II Cryptic Paranoia (Instrumental)
   III Thy Downfall
08 The Fire Goes Out ...(outro)

Well, well, well... Now, this is something I did not expect at all. This second album of the Greek Enshadowed marks a totally new era of the band. In fact, apart from the name of the band and Necro (called Necrotormentor on the debut album) there's nothing to somehow link the two records. New members, new logo and a new musical path followed. Forget about any standards set by the Nordic black souls, forget about old school black metal. You may as well forget about the debut of Enshadowed for a couple of minutes, as it will not help you much to understand what's happening on "Intensity".
An unholy release, and that's for sure. Black Lotus Records, which released the album compares it a bit to what Behemoth and Zyklon do... and I couldn't agree more. Good musicianship shown, ultra speed incorporated here as well as slow and dark passages. Great, furious guitar work throwing some totally twisted riffs here and there and a much lower than the common black metal throat work, presented on the debut. Some keyboards and guitar solos in between, made listening to "Intensity" a pleasurable journey into the darkest parts of my mind. This is not a release you listen to once and think it's all clear. It needs attention. It's maybe not a break though release on the international scene, it is an album that Enshadowed can be proud of though.
It might be a huge dissapointment to some, a great surprise to others. Some may call this a sellout following with the trend flow, others a natural progression. Whichever the case, Enshadowed released a great piece of death metal perfectly combined with that black metal feeling, that make this album an excellent choice for any death as well as black metal maniac loving variety. Not to be missed! [- Lord Darnok]

ENSLAVED - "Below The Lights"

01 As Fire Swept Clean the Earth
02 The Dead Stare
03 The Crossing
04 Queen of Night
05 Havenless
06 Ridicule Swarm
07 A Darker Place

"Below The Lights" is already the seventh full-length album in the discography of these Norwegians. The CD appears to be a little bit weird to me and I know why. I've finished my assiociation with Enslaved with "Bloodhemn" released in year '98 and because I haven't heard any of the last two albums, so the new material comes to me in such and no other way. Without comparision even with "Hordanes Land" recorded ten years ago. But yet it's still the same good band.
I'd like to put emphasis here, that there is a different track order on the promo CD I have, than on the original release and that's why I'm going to pinpoint the tracks using the titles. The album begins with march-like, mid paced song entitled "As Fire Swept Clean The Earth". And it gets interesting already! The keyboards, melodic guitars, bestial growling alternately with lazy spining clean vocals. The ending at the same note, but with pace speeded up. The next coming "The Dead Stare" is the the best one here in my opinion. With heavy metal solo (!), dynamic at start and with trance feeling from about second minute, just like Opeth playing one perfectly catchy motive over and over. There are keyboards with hammond-like tone in use here and personally I liked very much. The third one called "The Crosiing" is slow at the beginning - instrumantal, with acoustic guitars. It's 9 minutes long and ends sharply. "Queen Of Night" next beggins with flute, and then we've got another fine, broken paced trance and nice guitar tappings and clean vocals make me think a little bit of Johan Edlund here. The next track entitled "Havenless" begins with folk singing in Enslaved's mother tongue. It ends in similar way and it has a battle character with a matter of drums. In "Ridicule Swarm" song we've got a little of the older Enslaved and it's similar with "A Darker Place" closing the CD - fast snare-drum, blak metal vocal, bass struggling and acoustic guitars and slow solo in the end... And here I took all the seven compositions to X factors.
It's no longer viking metal, but I recommend this album honestly. I'd like to remind You, that the band has said goodbye to many years' standing guitarist R. Kronheim last year and the new CD was recorded with A. Isdal. Next, after the recording Dirge Rep has left the line-up and his seat behind the drum-kit was taken by some Freddy B. If You have any doubt about this release, I will quote the words of Ivar in the ending: "...try altered states of conciousness (knock yourself over the head ... or stay awake for two weeks without food before you check out the album)." Hmmm... I won't try. [-Deathox]

ERED - "Darkmageddon 3.0"

01 The Shadowchant
02 ...Of Blasphemy And Torment

This two-song production, recorded last year and release in the beginning of '03, oscillates somewhere in between death and black metal. Definitely a death metal sound and some black metal riffs here and there creating that unique atmosphere. Quite melodic at times, to get brutal and intensive right in the next moment. A pretty dark feeling overall. The vocals are also varied, which makes these songs enjoyable. In fact, you get to hear the Devil call upon mortals through these guys... It's a pity there are only two songs here, which makes it a bit hard to evaluate the band as such. Anyway, we get as many faster blast-beats as those much slower parts. I've listened countless times to this stuff and it didn't get me sick yet, which is a good sign.
This is the first time I got to listen to Ered's material and it left a good impression on me. Of what I know, there were keyboards incorporated previously into Ered's music - you will not find any of it here though. Good. Pure destruction. Definitely, if this is the way these guys are going to follow, I'd like to hear more of this Spanish quartet. And so I await their MCD due this year... [- Lord Darnok]

MAJESTY - "Principes De La Noche"

01 Intro
02 Obscura Victoria
03 Guerreros De La Obscuridad
04 Angel Nocturno
05 Fuerzas Extrañas
06 Alba Nocturna
07 Almas Desoladas
08 Criaturas Nocturnas
09 Claro De Luna
10 Outro

Right from Bolivia comes this production of Majesty, called "Principes De La Noche". They presented here a kind of black doom, with a reasonable outcome. All the lyrics written in Spanish, which makes it quite interesting for a band with these characteristics. Most of the material is kept mid paced with some well managed changes into faster riffing. The keyboards present might be the weakest point as they don't seem to follow exactly what the rest of the instruments projects here. Also the intro as well as the outro seem to be taken out of one of those "classic" albums, which in fact spoil al little the work Majesty has done here.
Anyway, apart from the mentioned weker points "Principes De La Noche" ain't that bad at all. "Obscura Victoria" for instance is a track, that shows the beginnings of the band and is certainly one of the best songs on the album. The lyrics seem to abuse a little on the "obscure" word... mostly when you start reading lyrics of other band's of this genre, this cliché is just more than abused. If I was to compare this release with to any other... difficult... there is something of "Under The Moonspell" here, just to say anything. It is certainly a good band on the Bolivian scene, that you'd have to listen to, to make your own opinion. [- Blasfemo]

MUTILATION [fr] - "Majestas Leprous"

01 Introducing the Plague
02 Tormenting My Nights
03 Destroy Your Life For Satan
04 Bitterness Bloodred
05 Majestas Leprosus
06 Beyond The Decay Of Tme and Flies
07 The Ugliness Inside
08 If Those Walls Could Speak
09 Words Of Evil

I'll not hide my dissatisfaction here, as I unfortunately did not enjoy this release as much as I thought I would. Even though there are some not bad parts here, the production in my opinion leaves much to work on yet. An awesomely primitive black metal with straight forward riffing. After releasing tons of demos, EPs and LPs, if this is the best release to date of Mutilation, than I really pass on it.
Then again, I'm not any oracle to judge this kind of music. A release definitely only for the extreme die hard fans of black metal in it's rawest form. "Majestas Leprous" is as crude and dirty as it could only get. A sick and totally underground release. And it's a pity, as one can hear some interesting parts here really. It totally wasted my brains after a couple of spins. So if you're into that kind of sounds, go ahead and "Destroy Your Life For Satan". [- Lord Darnok]

OPHANIMS - "El Regreso De Los Enanos Diabólicos"

07 Grotesco
08 Revolución Industrial
.Demo 1996.
09 Huecophobia
10 Chapoteando En La Diarrea
11 R.F

Just as the name says it, the production of this release mark a return of Ophanims onto the scene. Spawn in Valparaiso /Chile - alchoohhooolll - in the mid 90's, they had much more of a black metal image, although I never found them to follow clearly that path. Much more of a death metal with that characteristic electronic drum machine, which made them quite interesting. This comeback seems to me to be a step onto the track they were looking for. Much more of a heavy rock thing with death metal touches, something close to what the Austrian gods of Pungent Stench have been doing. We got here some industrial tracks, which in my opinion add nothing into this production and I think they could just stop with those experiments. The well elaborated use of a programmed drum machine gives them enough distinction among other bands and there's no need at all to abuse that going into industrial stuff I just mentioned.
"Sufre Tu Vida y Disfruta Tu Muerte" is a much heavier track than those before it, that are much more of a rock thing. That's where this release gets much more power and variety. You can find here Cannibal Corpse type of ultra speed riffs and the other way round some Paradise Lost and Ethereal Mirror slow riffing. These guys surprise the listener with every consecutive step down through this release and it's hard to find an easy to pinpoint path of this band. That's why I mentioned Pungent Stench as the closest, yet far to be a copy and that's a point I need to make clear.
Finally I found it an excellent idea to put on this release three track of their debut demo, that apart that the sound ain't any close to good, it reminds me so much of that great time "Chapoteando En La Diarrea" ruled! [- Blasfemo]

STURM - "Fragmente"

01 Schmerz
02 Fleisch
03 Blutbad
04 Kalte Gefühle
05 Stahlfleisch
06 De Histrione
07 Egophil
08 Priester
09 Bestie
10 Wahn & Sinn
11 Fragmente

The beginning is quite twisted. The sound of a dental driller, screams of a patient and some walking type of a bass line. It caused an immediate association with music in kind of Pan.Thy.Monium. This stuff is pretty different but still quite bizzare though. Sturm comes from German town Lübeck and this CD is their third record, released by Source Of Deluge Records through Cold Blood Industries. The music included on this 61 minutes long CD is a mixture of death and thrash metal in most cases, with some perverse and avant-garde, but still simple and catchy arrangments applied here and there. The whole material is rather mid paced, good for headbanging. I like its sound. It's quite clear, the bass has a metallic tone and the drums have a live sound. Riffing is quite common for such kind of metal, but the the whole record appears to be very unusual because of really insane vocals. All songs are in German, and although I do not understand much from those lyrics, I personally think, this language has made Sturm's music more powerful. "Fleisch" and "Blutbad" are its perfect example. "Fleisch" has really catchy riffing being in contrast with clean guitar played gently in the background. Worth paying attention is also a nice bass solo in the middle of this song. There are also some melodic riffs on this record, like in track entitled "Kalte Gefühle" for example. Vocals here are as scarry as some madman, and the feeling of isnanity is completed by backing vocals. Distinct from the rest of compositions, tracks no 6 and 7 are pretty into doom metal and track 9th is quite epic, with pace changes from fast to slow and solemn, and with dramatic choruses, where the vocal is quite in Rammstein style. Song entitled "Wahn & Sinn" is also very atmospheric and wicked. Slow riffing, bass rumbling and singing like crazy - very delirious, especially in the ending, which is faster a little bit. The last track is just like its title says. It consist of a several slow parts combined with a sound of beating heart and the whole character of this song is very depressive. After the silent minute at the end we can hear a "hidden" paraphrase of "Zorba the Greek", made with a lot of fun, what made me the immediate association with Die Toten Hosen. Then We can hear a woman moaning in exstasy (Oh yeah!) and a nice funky rhytm section...well, really nice ending I must say! As a summary of this rewiev I can say that "Fragmente" is a good record. If You like such kind of metal of course! There is a lot of various elements, seemingly not fitting to themselves. Sturm has made a nice mixture of those. If only they used English... [- Deathox]
