Just after posting a review of their debut album and getting more that satisfied with this piece of album they've recored, we've got a interview with the members of HETROERTZEN. Kaffel (K) and Askväder (A) have answered some questions exclusively for diabolous.com:
1. Tell us a little about the beggining of the band and would You tell us about the meaning of the name Hetroertzen?
K - Hetroertzen was founded at the beggining of 97, as my solo band, paralel to Horns, which is my other great band of classic black metal, that started back in 1994. I wanted to create a unique style that would combine the atmospheric, dark and the mistic. Back then I was pretty crazy with all these elfs, goblins, trolls, orks, etc., which gave me lots of inspiration and the meaning of the band's name comes from there... an orks' empire deep within caves.
2. Are you happy with the result of the recording?
A - We listened the disc and we like it, but we do not remain much in agreement. We had very a little time to record and to mix, and it was necessary to experiment more with the sounds, but for our debut, it shreds!
3. Which would be the bands that influence you most?
K - I can give you some names: Mayhem (De Misteriis), Darkthrone (A blaze, Under), Isengard (Vinterskugge), to name a few works that influence me and I still enjoy very much listening to.
A - Bands that inspire and influence myself would be Emperor, Ulver (Nattens), Obtained Enslavement, The Abyss.
4. Would you explain to us the concept of the art of the album?
K - The art shows what we take as an environment, you will be able to imagine that it gives us power to create ... dark forests fulfilled with secrets. It fills us with feelings.
5. You're in full promotion of the disc theses days. What are Your plans to future?
A - I have established diverse contacts with labels, promoters and magazines of the foreigner, especially with Germany. I am interested in promoting my band out of Chile, since the support in the music and the art in general is scanty.
6. I'd like You to explain the fact of having pseudonyms? What do those mean?
K/A - As in the pagan cultures, the pseudonyms represent your inner self , that is to say it is the name of your soul and on the other hand it is an identification with the obscure art. Kaffel symbolizes my bow with the underground and abysmal thing. Askväder it is a representation of the deluge in the Ragnarök or the second holocaust.
7. Do You identify with some belief and do You try to put this to the letters of the songs?
K - The lyrics are apocalyptic, dark, cryptic and mystically black. I try to take this guarded well through my life, though my essence is a nuisance too much those that surround me. The surprising it and incomprehensible has always been something for the weakest to be afraid off.
8. How has turned out the distribution and sales of the record?
A - The promotion in the beggining is slow, nevertheless fruitful, the distribution and sales in stores are directed well, though I prefer the direct sale, apart that the price lowers considerably.
9. I think You recorder a great album. Have You had any comments of other latitudes?
A - Thank you for the "great disc". We have received excellent commentaries on behalf of people of other latitudes involved in the metal and besides a very good acceptance in magazines, pages and foreign labels. What more pleases is crude oil and wrecking suond of the album, stands out the not typical sound, even here it has called the attention the fact of not sounding as the rest of the Chilean bands.
10. How does Hetroertzen's show look like? To have a woman in the band does it provoke any disadvantages for live shows?
K - Brutal enough, even more being known that we are so few. Apart from being the soundsman, I do those of "Rodi". It is difficult when it starts, but the result is a devastating show, in spite of that we are "alone" in front of the world. The fact of having a girl in a band with Hetroertzen's characteristics, it is not very normal as you know, but it has not been a problem at all, on the contrary, we stand out with the genuine of the offer.
11. What do You think of the following bands: Death Yell, Darkthrone, Necrophobic,Satyricon, Bathory,Burzum.
K/A - Death Yell: Undoubtedly they are the veterans of the Chilean metal.
Darkthrone: They Have the vigor of maintaining their ways, that's already admirable.
Necrophobic: brutal enough.
Satyricon: We like their first works only.
Bathory: It is a very pretty recollection and up to the moment I like it.
Burzum: Essentially uit's close to what I feel and express in my art, but unfortunately bores me, except the Hvist...
12. How's the scene down South? Any bands standing out?
K - The scene on the South of Chile was good well between 94 and 96, of there it declined. I know only a couple of bands, but I have not listened to them very well.
13. Are You going to maintain the same line-up or do You think of including keyboards?
A - Our new stuff includes much more extreme tracks, so adding keyboards, though it would give it different touches, it would remove a bit of this side. I have been composing songs that are totally superior to the previously recorded. [that's exactly what I wanted to hear-Blasfemo]
14. The album includes several songs that are about 5 years old. Do You have any new material yet?
K - I have written lyric since I was in college and they have remained guarded till now.
A - Sure, and it is much more beautiful. The topics go away for a more sharp and devilish way.
15. I would like that you will tell me some things abnout You, like what do the members of the band devote themselves to, hobbies, etc?
A - I still attend to college, and apart from studying, dedicate a great part of my time to what is so exciting - my music.
K - I devote myself squarely to my label (Trollberg Musik) and soon I will begin working on other productions. My hobby at this moment is meeting nature, would it be the forest, the snow; apart from that it helps me to compose all my musical and lyric work.
16. How was the show on the October 5th, together with Totten Korps, Dethroner between others?
K/A - That was great fun playing together with Dethroner and Totten Korps, the concert itself was organized well and we spent an incredible time. Besides our spectacle was completely devastating and we're sure our public remained fascinated. As an anecdote we prune to tell you that our bassist did not travel and at the last hour our guitarist Moerk Handen invited rightly the day of the trip Orategod's ex-bassman, who on having come to Port Montt had very little time to learn the tracks... When something is desired to do, is done! And it comes out awsome!
17. It is probable that Immortal appears again in Chile in December. What are the possibilities of You guys playing together with them?
K/A - Actually we do not know if we'll go as an opener for Immortal if they do come again, but it would be fantastic to be able to do it.
18. That do You think of the imperialism that the United States tries to expand?
K - This is just the "story about the uncle", The United States is a criminal power and the major Jewish colony in the planet, and as usual the Jews across are well received, and as soon as they show their real face it's always too late. The Jewish race always has been in war and tries to continue at war, because of it now, that they've got the power they try to mantain their universal authority inclined towards war, trying to compromise even other countries when it is a question of assaults, thinking firstly about their own convenience, thing that we've known for ever. Did you hear of the new Jerusalem? Or the great Jewish colony of the Patagonia (Chile) brought by Douglas Thompkins, with the intention of getting hold of the country, if not as you explain the fact that Chile is managing quiet well economically, since the North American Jews are investing in the Country through R. Lagos.
19. There are bands that in a beginning were black metal and now they are practically death metal - some of them call it evolution. What do You think about that?
K - It depends on the taste of the consumer. Personally it would not like to transform his(her) anything that satisties me with what we got nowadays. Apart from that, I can't imagine My Hetroertzen playing another style that is not Cold Grim Black Metal, That's what parallel projects are for. It is possible to evolve inside the same style, without falling into another one, that's a drastic change, not evolution.
To end this interview, would You like to add anything else?
K/A - MegaGreetings from these cold lands and are grateful for your interest for the band.
That's it
dominus sathanas sit semper vobiscum!!!
