Misericordia, with their MCD "Erase The Skies" ripped through all the shit being released by so many bands around, bursting with hatred, spilling blood on Heaven's gates, spitting upon the holy cross... Presenting Black Metal as it should sound and be performed these days... We've asked a couple of questions Endymion - Misericordia's drummer... and... we got this bit of Hell to share with You:
1. Hail Misericordia! I got to admit "Erase The Skies" is one of those releases, that will most probably never get a single critical review... How do You feel about it as a band, how are You doing these days?
Hell! We are doing fine. And yes the Mcd has got fucking great response! But we've had our share of bad reviews. Not many but a few. Most of them has been negative in the way that we aren't doing something new and original. But we never claimed to do that either. We want to play this kind of black metal and that's what we are going to do in the future too!
Well it's a little bit hectic right now. We are making the final arrangements before we enter Endarkeer studios to record our first full-length album. Right now we are focusing on the cover drawing, and lyrics. The rest is almost done.
2. Fast, brutal, blasphemous, aggressive... yet far from getting monotonous or boring as so many other releases out there do. Who does the composing duties for Misericordia? What does inspire You to walk on the black path?
Thanx! Deobrigula and Kail makes all the riffs and then we usually arrange them together. We often try out riffs and arrangements to see if they work or not. We probably put 2-3 songs in the trash before we make something we feel is worthy of beeing a Misericordia song. Making good songs takes time. The more you play a song the more distance you get, and then you can look at it from a different point of view. You have to really listen to what you are playing. I didn't chose, the black path chose me a long time ago.
3. Signing with Downfall Records probably changed many things in the band, like for instance spreading Your name to a much wider audience... What would You say - are You feeling any pressure growing on You and growing expectations for the upcoming full length ?
Well because "Erase the Skies" got so good reviews, we got some pressure to make as good or better songs as the songs on the MCD. We feel that the upcoming album is better and more mature. I just hope that's the case.
4. Speaking of the upcoming album... Can You Endymion give us any details yet? The name of it, any track names, how will it be compared to the "Erase The Skies" MCD? When and what are we to expect?
The name of the album is "Dechristianize" We had that name before we even had the songs. It´s going to be fast and furious blackmetal. It will probably crush most pathetic blackmetal acts out there! It's quite similar to "Erase the Skies" but as I said it's more mature. Fucking pure dechristianizing blackmetal!
5. There are bands that try to shock their audience with their controversial image and cover that way any weaknesses of their releases... I wouldn't say this is the case for You guys... What is the purpose of all this blood spilling on Your shows then?
Well we talked about having corpsepaint, but we decided not to, because of the simple reason that we felt that we didn´t need it. We started using blood when we happened to play a gig, where we found out that one of the bands were christians. So we wanted to chock them, so we smeared us in blood to spite them. And then afterwards we decided to continue to use blood. You enter a state of mind when you get up on stage all smeared in blood. It's more fucking evil and thats what blackmetal is about.
6. You did scare the shit out the local authorities, who forbid You playing any shows around as I heard... any other troubles with censorship and stuff, what about other countries?
Yes we did a gig in our hometown. It was kind of like a festival and all these "normal" people got pretty shocked when they saw us on stage covered in blood, spitting and screaming... But no, nothing more then that one incident.
7. Black metal was always associated with hatred towards every little thing that had to do with Christianity, God, the Church and all that... Let us break some Hell lose here and tell us what is Your approach towards these topics...?
That's the very essens of blackmetal. I get so fucking pissed off when I think about these christian blackmetal bands. The very music of blackmetal stands for rape, torture, murder, mutilation and every other shit that is forbidden by christianity. Christianity has killed more people than Hitler, Stalin and every fucking mass and serial killer out there. It's fucking pure hypocrisy and deception at it's worst. You can't play blackmetal and be a christian! Ahh fuck! I don't even want to discuss it.
8. Yeah right... I know that feeling... What would be the perfect way to show all the people out there how the church has been fucking up their lives and feeding them with lies for so many centuries?
There is no way. Death is the only cure for sick animals!
9. Anyway, it seems to be changing a bit these days... How much do You think music as such and other forms of art as well have helped this process of making people open their eyes to the holy lies..?
People are generally more enlightened now, but music and art can sure open doors to new ways of thinking.
10. Would You tell us a bit more about that accident that took place while recording Your second demo "Delenda Caeli" with Jocke Göthberg... leaving You just five hours to record it all?
Well there isn't much to tell. We had mixed one song and we went home to my place to listen to the song in my stereo. It sounded pretty god, so we were quite satisfied with the mixing. When we got back to the studio, Jocke had erased the whole shit by accident. So we had to start recording the whole demo once again in the middle of the night. It only took like five hours or something to record and mix the shit the second time "Just do it like we did before". It's funny now, but not so funny then.
11. What would be the weirdest thing that happened to You on a live performance? Any unpleasant memories?
Weird? I don't really know. Probably all, we are all pretty weird in general.
12. What three bands would make up to a perfect Misericordia World Tour?
It really doesn't matter. A bigger band is always good because they draw a bigger crowd but for me it's not a big deal who we play with as long as we give 666 percent and are satisfied with the gig.
13. It'd be a bit silly to ask You to mention Your direct influences, yet what are the bands You most often listen to lately?
Lately it's been Spawn of Possession, Nile, Dissection, Emperor, Mayhem and Iron Maiden. And of course Misericordia.
14. Sweden has given out to the world through the years so many great metal bands, that it would be hard to count them all... Tell us what are the relationships in between all of You there... How do You divide there the scene/fans between so many bands..? What can You tell us about your national scene these days?
Well, there's some bullshit and envy among the bands over here, and we try not to get involved. Still we've had a great time with other bands backstage.
15. Do You guys think it possible for Misericordia in the years to come, to go through an evolution so many bands go these days... starting off as "ultra" black metal, through black/death to death... or even transforming into something totally weird? Is that natural or trendy?
I personally hate bands that change what the play. Take Entombed for instance. They started out playing Deathmetal and now the play some sort of rockmetal. Fuck that! Misericordia is a blackmetal band an it will always be!!! I don't give a shit what's trendy or not. You can't live your life upon trends. You have to find your own way in life, as in music.
16. . I've heard rumors, that Deicide is not going to shock the world any more... probably recording "just another death metal album"... What would You say about it?
I don't know. And i don't really care.
17. What would be Your worst disappointment within the last year?
The worst thing is that Glen Benton and Vital Remains stole the name dechristianize from us! They are releasing an album which is also entitled Dechristianize. Fucking rippoff's!!! I got so fucking mad when i heard about it. And I know that Glen Benton has nosed around our Mp3.com page about a year and half ago. He probably saw the word and took it. I have never seen the word in use, in any situation except now when fucking Glen "ripoff" Benton decided to attach it to the new Vital Remains album. If he already had the word why didn't he use it for a Deicide album?!
18. When and where are we going to see you spilling some holy blood live in the nearest future? Any other plans You could share with us?
Right now we are focusing on the album so we don't have any gigs planned. But we have got in touch with a few booking-agencies so the future looks a little brighter now.
Alright, thanks a lot Endymion for Your time! Hoping You'll stay as brutal as You showed on "Erase The Skies" and keep on fucking Jesus, I would like to ask you to say whatever You feel like telling all of us to sum it all up...
Thanx! We'll keep defiling the world and raping your ears with our Pure Dechristianizing Blackmetal!!!
