BELIAL - "Perversion"

First of all I got to say that I am a fan of these masters of extremity since their beginnings, back in 1985. Belial (Chile) is one of the bands that it is possible to name a living myth. This it is their third CD, with their previous productions "Australophitecus" 1993 and "Grotesco" 1997. They are the leaders of the Grind Death style on Southamerican level. "Perversion" is no doubt a marvel and the best work that they have realized to date. There are 9 devastating compositions, that personaly drive me crazy with Chalo's bass siounding like a cannon. Probably Corvi's voice sounds little more death metal that on their previous works. Also it is enough prominently the work that fulfils Wolfy on the drums with a few incredible changes of double bass-drum. For those, who have not got the chance yet to listen to Belial, their sound is sort of a mixture of the "F.E.T.O" and "Diatribes" of Napalm Death with touches to Pungent Stench. But this is more that prominent since they developed their style when these bands did not even exist... Songs like "New potions", "Foul smelling life", "Claustrophilia" and "Lord of flies" became Belial's real classics, which is one of the most ancient bads of the Southamerican scene. Emphasized are their typical sarcastic, grotesque and perverted lyrics, written by the sick vocalist Corvi who has given that original touch to the band right from the start. Definitively very good stuff to recommend. Contact the band at: http://realbelial.cjb.net email: [email protected] , [email protected]

CATARSIS - "Paganismo"

Catarsis come from Rancagua / Chile and they are a proof that there are still bands that know well the roots of death metal. This release brings us 13 chaotic ritual anthems remembering such greats like Inverted, Deceased, earlier releases of Mystifier with a touch of modern death metal in the Krisiun vein. One gets the feeling that they've really put much effort into this recording which shows us pretty good sound as for an independent release. The guitars could have been heavier yet it doesn't pull back on the band's overall quality. The graphic cover work is to be one of the best I've seen for a Southamerican band. The vocal work needs a special mention here, sounding to be one the Chilean bests, singing in Spanish, well readable yet totaly brutal. I personaly liked the entire album as it didn't get me bored at any moment. Each of the tracks has its own personality and doesn't get monotonous. The lyrics are as dark as antichristian but not the usual stuff, there is a much deeper meaning hidden within the message Catarsis gets through. Finaly I think that as a band, they can give much more yet for us to see, as I had the pleasure to witness on the BIOBIO Metal Fest 2. There are really good ideas there, good stuff there and I hope they can achive that little something that the bigger bands have and from there on just go straight up and become well known. DEATH LIVING - "Forever Underground Occult And Magic"

ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!!. It is good feeling to comment on a band whose music perfectly matches one's favorite. Death Living is a band from Chile. I begin this way the review since here it is known by the elder thrasher that a few years back it was goddamn difficult for a band that was not from the capital - Santiago to record an album. Death Living, formed in 1991 and it was until 1998, when they released their demo. But now, they released this "Forever Underground Occult And Magic" EP in which did really surprise me when I listened to it. It contains five real anthems of dark and anti-Christian death thrash. The first 4 tracks are sung in Spanish and alone the last one that gives the name to the EP is sung in English. This is a point in favor Death Living the fact they sing in Spanish can turn out to be a little riskey as they are few bands that on having done this, manage to sound well. As that the Spanish does not rhyme as well as English does. Nevertheless, the result is marvellous and it even sounds more blaspheme. The job done on the instruments is perfect for the style that they realize. The sound as well as the production is excellent and I believe it demonstrates what Death living wanted it to from the start. If I must name some influences that one can notice this does not turn out to be easy, since they got pretty much their own style, but I might mention a combination of Nocturnal Breed, the first works of Slayer and Rotting Christ. Though also specifically in the last cut a few touches go close to Sodom. All that done the Death Living way and that's their way. Tracks like "Aqui habita el espíritu del diablo","Odio Al Falso Impostor" and "Forever underground occult and magic " will be the delight of the deathrashers. I only hope that they get the recognition they deserve, since this EP overcomes fully several productions of bands much bigger and that personally I think release poor stuff. Metal is Darkness and that's Death Living. [- Blasfemo ]

DETHRONER - "Advance CD 2002"

Twelve minutes of technics, brutality + death metal is what delivers us Dethroner in this promotional Advance CD of what will be their cd debut 2025. Three very good tracks do that the wait turns out to be long. Incredible riffs, guitar solos that fall down within virtuosity, a heart-breaking voice close to Suffocation and a perfect work of battery owe to posision Dethroner inside the best Chiliena DEath Metal bands. "We rise" begins with Slayer sounding guitars but this happens passes to be only an anecdote since the cannibalism and the sinister feeling (read: Cannibal Corpse and Sinister) soon get hold of the arrangements of this creation. "Hell on the earth " reminds us that inside every creation of death metal cannot be absent the touches of morbid Angel, though this goes much further with the changes of pace in the Suffocation style. The last song "Deathshadowed" goes back to the times when the band was called Krucifixion and which is a composition much more varied but totally brutal. Now we just got to wait for the debut, of these Chilean deathmetallers!

DEVILYN - "Artefact"

After the release of "Reborn In Pain" there was not a word heard of Devilyn. In fact, there were people who thought Novy's band was forever gone. They were very wrong though and should now fall to their knees begging for forgiveness. Sure we had to wait quite a bit of time for the follow up of "Reborn In Pain". At last we got what we wanted. And it was well worth the wait! Hah, how many times did we hear stories of the magic the third release has on every band. What I'm saying is that "Artefact" is Devilyn's third full length album in the history, so it was now or never, to be or not to be sort of thing and similar bullshit... I don't really give a fuck, which release in a row it is for a band I have the pleasure to listen to, when it smashes me right in the face making me feel real good. That's just the case of "Artefact". I've got the CD for a couple of weeks now as the premiere was some time ago and I've got to admit, that I'm more than sure now, that it's damn well done in every inch of it. This music demolishes my hearing with no remorse. I'm stunned by the sound itself of the recording. In a way sterile, letting the listener distinguish every note played, on the other hand kicks ass with its roughness. In my opinion it's the best music recorded in a Polish studio to date. It is absolutely member of the world's elite realization-wise. It is now up to us to be happy and feel proud of Polish producers. Talking of it, I was just thinking when will the time come for bands from other countries to record their material in Poland. You're think I'm going crazy? We're yet to see!
Anyway, Devilyn's "Artefact " is a piece of hellishly brutal death metal. I hope none of the members will feel any bad if I compare their style to the American death metal school. It's surely coincidence that this is just the style I like most. All the material is very much of equal high level so it is hard to choose the best song of the lot. Making a long story short, Devilyn recorded an album damn hard to divide. It is obvious that talking of this music it's hard not to compare to the masters of this genre. Listening to "Artefact", if I got to compare it to other stuff, it'd be, Morbid Angel's works. I'm talking here about the work done by the guitarists and the vocals. Novy sings at times like David Vincent on "Domination". We all know, that some similarities are impossible to avoid even for such talented musicians as Devilyn's. I have to state strongly here though, that "Artefact" stands out with its tremendous touch of originality. I really hope that "Artefact" becomes a success that it sure earned to become and hopefully we'll get more of this outstanding, brain devastating music from Devilyn!

EVIL OFFERING - "Massacre En Antofagasta"

01 Intro / When The Lie Reigns (New Song II)
02 And Your Dreams Are Buried
03 Do Your Job
04 Enough Shit
05 Two Faced People
06 Evil Offering

Looking at the cover art of this band I could imagine that they had to play thrash metal and that's just what I got right from the beginning of this CD. Evil Offering, coming from Antofagasta (Chile) produced an EP pretty honest and entertained. They give us old school thrash. I can hear influences of such legends as Nuclear Assault, Firbidden, Vio-lence, Overkill, D.R.I., Testament and Slayer. Enough to say, that listening to this release there's nothing new, that is, what can You expect from a bands that's going on a well defined path? I need to mention that these guys do it the old school, no modern trends to be heard here, which is good. Another thing is the sound itself as it is really rooted well in the 80's. The vocals could be compared to the Vio-lence vocalist or Blitz's of Over Kill.
The EP starts off with an intro in the Nuclear Assault vein and goes immediately into "When The Lie Is Reigns" which reminds very much of Vio-lence's "World In A Wold" !!! There comes "And Your Dreams Are Buried" which could easily be one of the best Over Kill's songs. Afte that comes "Do Your Job", a song that makes You mosh wild with D.R.I. sort of riffs, to continue with a guitar solo just to continue the massacre. "Enough Shit" sort of only real thrash metal! Very much Slayer form the Reign In Blood years... Following we get "Two Faced People" and "Evil offering" making You feel that classic "tuca tuca" hahaha... these guys really know how to thrash... there are many bands lacking originality, but the thing after all is to maintain the listener entertained and to me after listening to thousands of record has it's merits.
Finally, those who love the thrash of the 80's will love this EP and those who would like to find out about thrash metal and how it sounded years ago, Evil Offering is certainly a good pick. Just remember that this is much more brutal than stuff offered lately by Enslaved or Impaled Nazarene. I've spoken. [- Blasfemo ]

HETROERTZEN - "Flying Across The Misty Gardens"

01 Ancient Litaniae
02 Black Clouds Will Come
03 Domine Exaudinos
04 Funeral
05 Garden Of Myst
06 In The Last Night... Storm
07 Nocturnal
08 Under The Moonfog

This album did surprise me. I'll say it quick. If you want to listen to some PURE Black Metal stuff directly from Puerto Montt/Chile, this is the release you're looking for. "Flying Across the Misty Gardens" gives us eight tracks of mighty dark black metal. With this produccion these southeners make a point. No shitty keyboard work. We can hear clear influencies of the first records of such greats like Darkthrone, Satyricon, Immortal, Mayhem. Even within the fifth song "Garden of Mist" came to me a flash back of Sarcofago's work. But don't you dare to think Hetroertzen is just a copy of elder bands of the kind. Even though there are some similarities, it is sure as hell they've got a style of their own. A huge work there put on the drums by Raffel (the lider I suppose).
If you thought there ain't no salvation in Chile from the likes of Cradle of Shit and Pimu Korgir then You were wrong - there's a new demon born and its name - Hetroertzen. [- Blasfemo ]

LETAL SOLARIS - "Black Tears"

Letal Solaris sent us a CD single, with a song called "Black Tears". The members of the band come from Santiago & Valparaiso (Chile) and they head straight to enlarge the growing South American doom scene. Even though it's just one song, it gives a well overlook of what this band is all about. The music we get here is definitely doom with some touches of black. They work with two singers. Jorge does the growls and if You've listened to "Lost Paradise" of Paradise Lost You'll know what I'm talking about, and Valentina with a perfect voice for this kind of music both of whom go through many different kind of dialogues. This is a well worked through composition and it might be compared to what such bands as Theatre of Tragedy and The 3rd and The Mortal did in their earliest days. This advance of what will be their prompt EP leaves the listener with a sensation that Lethal Solaris is going to give much to speak about them in future time and that they will surely not defraud the followers of good doom metal. KHOLD - "Phantom"

So, we got the second album of Khold. The truth is, I wouldn't think of it as of something really awaited by many fans. I think it'd be mostly the one's that, didn't fall upon the modern fashions (read: female squeaks, orchestras murmuring lost somewhere within Norwegian forests and those kin of things) will hear of the new Khold album with a little faster heartbeat. Personaly I liked the album because I'm myself a fan of the more straight forward part of the black metal scene. The rest shouldn't really get much interest in it.
Watching the cover, many might find some similarities to Satyr and his band. At times, the similarities are more than just coinsidence. Still the music is what matters most, about which the die hard black metal fan shouldn't have nothing to argue about. In a couple of words I could say, that if someone likes Darkthrone, will probably like Khold. Khold with their debut showed they could find, withing this hermeticlly closed genre, room for themselves. This time, with "Phantom" the band continues to follow the same path. It's kind of interesting that Khold's recordings possess this sort of freshness that many other bands within the same scene simply miss. Comparing the new album to "Masterpiss of Pain" we got a better sound of the whole. Better, doesn't mean polished, like some super production. The tracks on thier own are not that very extended (which is totally understandable). We get more time changes than on the first album. "Phantom" seems to be a more subtle material in its delivery. Well, I just wonder whether this band will keep doing their work as they've done up to this day, or will the third album be more of a mixture of new tredy cosmic sounds? I hope not, and that in a few more months the black metalu fans from under the sign of Gorgoroth, Dark Throne, old Dodheimsgard will get another portion of the music they love.

MAYHEM - "European Legions"

"European Legions" its a release a litle beard, still I though of putting down a couple of words about it. No doubt it is a record for the die hard fans of the band. I'm not talking here about the who is "the true" and kind of shit, which really bores me and I couldn't care less about it... Probably getting old... In my opinion one likes the band or not, as easy as that, and there's no point in discussing the subject. Mayhem's got a few releases on which we can't anything new really i "European Legions" falls on the same shelf. On this material we get - I'll let myself quote the inne sleve: "track 1-7 are live & tracks 8-12 are pre-production". That says pretty much everything there's to say about it.
I've always liked the live Mayhem versions so I got to admit that I find much more interesting the first part of "European Legions". We have two live tracks from "Grand Declaration Of War". We're talking here about "To Daimonion" and "View From Nihil", which we can also listen to in the pre-production part (he,he...). I don't really understand that because I find the tracks from the last record really good performed live. Probably the guys are preparing to release another concert album, on which we'll get to see the entire "Grand Declaration...". Budget problems after the somehow falling short to good fan reaction to the last album? That way there'll always be some who'll buy another record, which doesn't take much money to release and all shall stay happy and satisfied. Back to the "European Legions" content. Well, apart from the already mentioned "To Daimonion", there are tracks from all the earlier releases. From "Wolf’s Liar Abyss" we hear the "Silvester Anfang" and "Fall Of Seraphs". Follow "Freezing Moon" from... I don't have to mention which great black metal release, do I. That's surelly the best track on this record! What huge power lies within the eldest songs! Some fans might get killed by new concert versions of such classics as "Carnage", "Chainsaw Gustfuck" and "Pure Fucking Armageddon". The live part is really well done, the tracks are well aranged and it gives much pleasure listening to than "Mediolanum Capta Est".
And that's the point where I'll stop. What for do I need the 8-12 tracks, which are as I mentioned earlier songs from "Grand Declaration Of War"? O, guys, not nice at all! Still, who should these stars/cult band Mayhem really care about...

PYORRHOEA - "Promo 2002"

This material got recorded in June 2002 in, Hertz Studio. Seven tracks including an outro,I found personally a very hot piece of music that I'd recommend to all those well into grind-death stuff. Over fourteen minutes of musical holocaust sawn together with sound gore pieces state clearly the high standard of the band. The track arangements, double vox drive (love it!), uncompromising beats and the guitar work, each of these elements shows high standards and most important is on its place. I would certainly not recommend this promo to people stuck within the very commercial metal stuff. You will not find here any shitty ballads, ten minute guitar solos nor keyboard based instrumental tracks... Although we get here mostly very fast, gore splattering beats, there are also slower parts, that nicely join all the elements of this material into a whole. Such track names as "Chainsaw Dance" and "Hung On A Hook" say all there is to tell about the lyrics. The only thing I miss here would be another fifteen minutes of this stuff to fully satisfy my soul... but keeping in mind, that it's just a promo material, it surelly deserves the higest note. I'm just listening and listening to it and I'm trying to find some weak points, I could write here about and I just cant'd find any... Sure that are shittheads that will probably find something here, something there just for the sake of fucking a band, that's life. I myself shall stay just here awaiting the official recording, which in my opinion Pyorrhoea deserve.

SPAWN OF SATAN / BLOODSICK - "Split CD"

.Spawn Of Satan.
01 The Church Of Horror
02 Vigils For The Damned
03 The Code Of The Craft
04 What Evil Dwells
05 The Everlasting Terror
.Bloodsick.
06 Boundless
07 Endofall
08 Fear No God
09 Gehenna
10 The Blood Of the Goat

This Spawn Of Satan / Bloodsick Split CD came out be a great surprise to me for various reasons, the most important being of course the recording as such. What I mean is that it came out to be a great come back to the greatest days and bands of the beginning of death metal, of which we don't get much these days.
Spawn Of Satan, an American five piece unleashed Hell, that got buried and forgotten long ago, back after the big death metal boom at the beginning of the nineties. Keeping it at average speed, raw, brutal, aggressive and hellish all the way just like the old school bands used to do... There came to me a flashback of the debuts of Swedish gods Entombed, Dismember... with much heavier riffing, more powerful and fuller guitar overall work. At times I smelled there a bit of such thrash metal jewels as the first releases of Kreator and Slayer... the vocal work though much closer to death metal growls, yet readable and blasphemous as Hell itself, spilling blood all over God's neighborhood. These five three-four minutes long tracks of Spawn Of Satan, adorned well with aggressive guitar solos just as this kind of music deserves it, leave no doubt about it that these guys know what they do and they're doing it damn well!
The second part of this CD contains an unreleased demo of Bloodsick, only two of the song being previously released on a split with Nunslaugthter. Really aggressive stuff, many timing changes, many cachy riffing. Although the vocals presented are much more in the thrash metal vein, it doesn't take off any of the hellish power of the entire material. Unfortunately Bloodsick soon changed their name to Soulles and they're most probably still working under that name now and if they represent all the power they showed on this demo, they're a band well worth checking out on.
This Split CD is a must for every metalhead into good, I'll repeat that, Good and Hellish thrash-death metal standing up proudly for these days. [-Lord Darnok]

SUMMONING - "Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame"

Those, who liked Summoning on their earlier releases will surely feel the same after listening to this album. One could say, that the listeners who liked the earlier releases of the band will get facinated, the rest could as well go to Hell... The both of the band members kwon very well what they want to acomplish and they do it in a perfect manner. These guys don't force already opened doors, don't experiment. Each Summoning's following material can be recognized after a few first notes. Does this mean that Summonig stars to swallow its own tail? No! No! No! Protector and Silenius dressed up their music with Mr. Tolkien's World, which's most probably known by each one of our readers. For me, their music was always a perfect background for the time of reading this great writer's stories. I got to tell You that "Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame" is surely the best "soundtrack" done by Summoning for reading such literature. In my opinion Summoning style has much to do with the ambient kind of music. That's my own opinion though, which not everybody has to agree with. Still, at least a part of the listeners will admitt, there's something to it. Comparing with "Stronghold" there's much more electronic coming through, which takes the guitars' place. I get the feeling that the guitars are here to put an emphasis on the stronger and more dinamic parts of the record. I can't imagine though the total replacement of that instrument in the band's music. There are those who belief that guitars should dissapear totaly - I just can't agree with that. After all it is metal music and should stay that way. Would it be black metal? I don't know that anymore, it's sure not the classic one, but still Summonig's music is closest to black metal. Let it be that way. Summoning is original, unique. That's one of the things why I honor this band so much. I hope it stays that way. I'll not mention any song names as it is of no use at all. You just got to listen to entire record to understand what is this music all about. I'd recommend this record surely to those who like moody, athmospheric sounds and don't giving a shit about female squeeking and shitheads with lipstick on.
I'm not revealing details about the cover of the album as You simply got to see it. A piece of art!

THORNAFIRE - "Mortus Tenebrae Surrectus"

I've heard good comments about this band but I never thought that I was going to like this material so much, to the point that I'd fall within the followers of the band! This is their second work since the previously released emo but now they gave themselves the jump with this MCD. First of all, it is a totally professional work as much in the sound area as the presentation. The art and design created by Víctor is to be praised. But the most important thing is the music and this is precisely what made me enjoy this disc so much. What this band offers is Death Metal rotted in the old school with certain touches black-thrash-doom. But imagine, to mix Necrophobic with Angel Corpse's crudeness, add to it certain Dissection's touch with some slow parts that made me remember the As the Flowers Withers of the old My Dying Bride and finally packed of Hate Eternal - Morbid Angel stuff. Of all that they obtained something unusual, Blasphemous and original. Without a doubt this is a great step for them. 8 tracs that make you ask for more. Atomic Aggresor's cover is real good since they did it their way and probably it's as good or even better than the original version. Over half an hour of brutality. I hope they soon achieve stability in their formation since with the potential that they have they can achieve big things! [- Blasfemo ]

UNAUSSPRECHLICHEN KULTEN - "Esoteric Order from Dagon"

01 Azathoth Have Mercy
02 The Promice Of Gluttriel
03 Prophesy of Al-Azif
04 The Black Goat Of The Woods With a Thousand Young
05 De Vermis Mysteriis
06 We Are The Spawn
07 The Unnamable Cult
08 Supernatural Horror

It's been some time now, that we've noticed the Death Metal rebirth in Chile and bands like Unaussprechlichen Kulten form a part of this new coming. When they recorded this demo/cd they were only two members but they did not find a baterista for what they resorted to the programmed drumming to fulfil the demo. The death metal that they practise is rough mixing of good form such influences as Incantation, Suffocation, Broken Hope, Hate Eternal and Mortification. Of all this mixture there go out the guttural canticles of these "Santiaguinos". All 8 tracks are very good and do not have low points. Names as Azathot Have Mercy!, Prophecy of To - Azif and Of Vermis Mysteriis they are totally macabre. I need to add a special mention to the Supernatural Horror song, that blew up my head. Now if I'd suggenst something, it would be that should look for a drummer as their music pleased me but they lack a bit on that feeling that only a real drummer can manage to add and enrich the whole produccion. Lyrically influenced by the master Lovecraft this it is a good step that they have made in order that the lovers of the Death Metal begin to know about this newcomer worth keeping an eye on and wait anxiously for their new production.
