Belial have been around for so many years, they're one of the eldest bands on the south american scene. This is why we had to get this interview done yet more - having recently released an excellent new album "Perversion". We asked Gonzalo Suez, the band's bass player a couple of questions and this is what we got:
1. "Perversion" is you third full length release. How would you describe it to the readers?
Without a doubt it is the best material we've recorded, much more brutal, the sound, its production. An excellent CD.
2. "Perviersion" got a much better overall sound compared with You previous releases. Are You fully satisfied with it?
That's right, we've managed a totaly competitive sound on an international level. We've work very much on it.
3. In my opinion "Perviersion" is much more death metal than your previous release "Grotesco". Would You agree with that?
I think You're right... more death grindcore... and refuck it all...
4. Back in 97 when Napalm Death came to Chile You've had the opportunity to talk with them... How do You recall meeting them?
Well, we got to know Barney nad Danny Herrera... we didn't talk much really, but they are people very cincere, no rock star sort of pose You know. Great band.
5. You've been always in charge of the artwork for Belial's releases. All of them are pretty bizzare in a way. What does the "Perversion" cover represent?
Basicaly it's a misfigured face... everyone can give it their own meaning, that is what's so great about any piece of art of any genre.
6. You are well known for Your drinking habbits... What kind's of drinks are You into?
We're pretty easy with that, if you know what I mean, but personaly I preffer wine, still everything else does the work.
7. The last track on Perversion called F-451 is kind of an experiment or is it something Belial is preparing the listners forthe future?
No, it's just a song that I did on the recording session, that was just developed more.
8. You've been working with Toxic Records since the beginning. What's You opinion on the promotional work they've been doing?
Mediocre... I have always thought that they could do much more for Belial and the other bands they have released aswell.
9. Belial, after your debut, "Australophitecus", you have gone through many lineup changes. You have not had a stable guitar player since then. Is this going to change finally with Daniel?
He is an official member of the band as for today and I hope it stays that way for much longer.
10. What are Your relations with cardinal Medina? What can You tell us about that?
You're reffering to some kind word this guy dedicated to our band in one of his intervensions... well, that cardinal Medina has a horrible opinion about us is just great and that's why we've put his words on our official T-shirt.
11. I heard You were going to Brasil to play some gigs, how's that going?
Well, I hope that we get all arranged in January/February...
12. What is Your opinion about such leyends of thash metal of the 80's like Destruction, Nuclear Assault, Dark Angel, just to name a few, coming back on stage and puting out new records?
If they do release new stuff that's good... yet some of those bands should just stay where they left and be remembered well in order not to be looked at making people feel pity or something...
13. What's Your idea of an ideal party?
A day in a library...
14. Have You been thinking about realsing of a live album?
Yes... it could become true in 2025.
15. How's the record saling? How can we get a copy of this and Your elder material?
It's been going pretty well actualy... if You'd like a copy, just send us an email.
16. Why did You name the CD "Perversion"?
Well, it has a much wider meaning in fact, than just sexual stuff like pedofilia or something... perversion is in a way every new idea that is not accepted by the society... Copernicus, Darwin they were all perverts in their eras... that's were the story goes...
17. How did You go through the process of making and aranging the songs for Perversion as Wolfy (drums) and Daniel (guitar) live in Santiago whilst You and Corvi (voc) in Valparaiso??
Most of the song I wrote myself, so we've had rehersals over the weekends here in Valparaiso. That wasn't too complicated really.
18. You recorded a video clip for the "Son Of God" taken from the "Australophitecus" CD, that was on vision through national channels as well as the MTV. Are You planning a video clip for your new release?
We're just working on it... there'll be more on that soon...
19. For a 17 years old band... how do you see Belial on a national and international level?
We just need to come out of Chile really these days, and that is what I hope to achive finally with Belial... and keep on recording and playing...
Finaly, what are You future plans, would You like to add anything?
Europe, Brasil... to release a live CD... well, thank's a lot for the interview and email us for any more info!!!
