At last, the guys form the born in 1998 LUNA AD NOCTUM got the long awaited deal for their debut album, which is to see the light of the day through Pagan Records. The album is going to be available in mid September. We've asked a couple of questions about mucis, life with Luna's co-founder - Adrian - bass/voc...
1. Would You tell us about the line-up. Did Luna have any personal changes since the beggining?
Luna Ad Noctum are as follow: Adrian Nefarious-bass/voc, Dragor Born In Flames- drums, Infamous- guitars, Blasphemo Abyssum Invocat- guitars , Noctivagus- keyboards. Guitarist Blasphemo joined the band after the recording of our debut, called: "Dimness' Profound", the rest of the band members are together right from the start.
2. You're pretty much compared to Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth. I find your music closest to Ancient's. I'm far from saying you're simply copying someone else's work, but You got to admit, that You can't avoid some similarities?
Yes sure, we can't get rid off all this comparing thing, we're happy though, that we are compared with the best... Notice that we play the same kind of music as the aforementioned bands, but I feel You're statemant is based upon our promo "Lunar Endless Temptation"? We're sure that after listening to our record, whisch is due on September through Pagan Records, many people will see, that Luna Ad Noctum is an avangard black metal going its own way.
3. Do You think, that it is still possible at all to play black metal with symphonic sort of stuff and not getting compared with earlier releases of other bands?
I think it is possible, it's just a matter of arrangements and ideas of course. The truth is You'll always find some similarities if You want to find them and we're conscious about that, but that's not the way to go... We're the only Polish band playing this kind of music, we've never felt to any stylish death metal where there are so many bands around our country... We play Our music coming straight from the heart, what we feel and we try to put it the best we can into music, Luna Ad Noctum being the final result.....
4. Would say that black metal is inseparable from Satanism as such?
Black metal is surely born off darkness, hatred towards all that human, sadness , loneliness and magic... Each one feels it their own way and expresses it that way... I think it is just a personal thing of each one of us. I don't think that listening to black metal, one has to be a satanist or antycatholic, it important to to be able to feel this kind of music, see its beauty and depth, and after that interpret it your own, individual way.
5. What was the main reason that made You put on corpse paint? Do You use those off the stage?
Our makeup is an inseparable part of our shows, it expresses our personalities and demonstrate the feelings we experience on stage. It's a part of the mystery which are our live shows... we don't use them behind the scenes.
6. What do You think of nationalistic bands? You got any contact with any of those?
I've got nothing against such bands, art is an art, enybody can do what they feel like doing and feel best at... I know a few such bands but they are mostly skin head bands.
7. Would You poin out our Your favourite Luna Ad Noctum's song i and tell us what it is about?
Sure,... my favourite is... An Ancient Splendour, you'll find it on the album. In my opinion it's one of our best songs. It's all about night landscapes, dreams, transmigrations, wildeness of nature, fascination with darkness and counsciousness of our alienation, curse and sacrifice......
ebony sweetness brought us condemnation
for evil's reign where Eden is never ending sin ...("An Ancient Splendour")
8. What does Satanism mean to You? Are You or ever were members of any satanistic organisations?
Satanism is a very wide expression and abused in everyday's language... creates many controversials and scares people... In my opinion, it's just the opposite to what the christian church or christianism as such represents... for me it's a bit too easy using those terms... like putting the both into the same sack... as I've said earlier, each of us feels things in a very personal way and experiences them its way... in our country you can find many desperate people with problems rising of different nature like growing up for instance that fall into alcohol abuse, drugs, beatings, burglary, burning churches ...it's nothing to do with Satanism, just a demonstration of their lack of compatibility with the surrounding world in which we all live in... regarding the second part of your question, none of us has ever been part of such organisation.
9. We know that You're recoring for Pagan Records, how do You feel about that?
It's done already, we recorded the album in September 2001 in Selani Studio, it's going to be out in mid September 2002..... so await it all !
10. Where there any other labels showing their interest in having You signed?
Yeah, the material got interest not only from Tomasz from Pagan Rec. We also had proposals from Metal Mind Production for instance...
11. How do You work out the material?
We usually meet with the guitarists at home, bringin in some stuff ready and test it, then we merge it together into one piece. That's the way we preffered to work through the years.
12. Is black metal Your way of life?
Sure it is and even though we appreciate the work different artists and bands oplaying different music from ours, we're totally dedicated to what we do.
13. Mention five most important albums in Your opinion of the kind.
Hmmm.. there's lots but I'll try to mention a couple of those which I admire most: Cradle Of Filth "Dusk & Her Embrace" and "The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh", Dimmu Borgir "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" and "Spiritual Black Dimensions", all of Hecate Enthroned, Anorexia Nervossa , Marduk "Panzer Division", all of Dark Funeral and of course such classics as Darkthrone and Bathory...
14. Your favourite writer?
Well, I got to tell you that I don't do much reading, I just don't have the time... anyway, one of them is Stephena Kinga, the guy is awsome ...
15. Do You do much touring? Which shows do You recall best?
There are no rules regarding our shows, some times we play lots although lately we've not had the chance to play... od the Smash FEstival for instance, where the weather had the last word... The best show in myu opinion would have to be that in Gdańsk - Rudy Kot, that was amazing...
16. Did You have any bad time while on stage?
Sure, as with any band I guess, in April playing in Wrocław with Esqarial and Witchmaster, playing the first song Dragor had troubles with one of the drum pedals and we had to start the song again(!). We sure try to prevent those kind of things.
17. I remenber Beherit and the times when the only stuff of them you could find was a tape recorded live in Finland. That was real cult and stuff... Didn't You think of doing something similar? I don't mean some live record polished all the way with a sticker "Live" on it, remastered countless times.
It's kind of a dream of a every band to record a live album on some awsome show... You see, those were different times, people apreciated more those cult bands, Beherit is classic within the genre, some find it real primitive, others a masterpiece... Today's live record are clasic, standard productions, caressed to the last note, put out to be commercial seccesses, that's the reality.
18. After Your first material "Moonlit Sanctum" we got "Lunar Endless Temptation". What in Your opinion as a co-writer was it better from the debut?
"Lunar Endless Temptation" is a material much more mature and recorded at a professional studio, which gives it the huge advantage over the Moonlit material... "Lunar..." is a promo cd which is to promote our upcoming album, that will soon hit the stores...
19. Tell us something about the new metarial. Any names, length, etc.
As I've already mentioned, the album is entitled "Dimness' Profound" - 37 minuts of music + intro & outro ...7 tracks of aggresive black metal, with a huge kick on the sound side, devastation where evil and beauty go together, great moods and fineness.
20. What studio and producer will You be going for next time?
Next record will most probably be recorded at Hertz in Białystok.
21. What would be Your biggest dreams?
Hmmm biggest dreams?? If we;re talking about the band, I'd like the new album to be well received and sold out and that we could record more albums and gain lots of fans... That's what I'd like most.
22. Looking back, what would You like to correct on "Lunar Endless Temptation"?
I'm not sure I can tell You that right now... after leaving the studio I'd like change everything bnut looking back now, I think that the material recorded is cool, one think that annoy's me bad is it's sound, it ain't got the power it should have and comparing with "Dimness' Profound"... you'll see soon.
23. What kind music equipment You use on rehearsals?
Talking of equipment we've just og tin possession of new stuff, but I'm not going to do any fee promotion here.
24. The opinions about our music scene differ pretty much. I'd like to know Your opinion on the subject?
There's a lot of bands doing some great music out there, some of them don't fall behind world known bands from the East and North... We have a huge number of fans, metal maniac, having really good time on concerts ...no negative thoughts.
25. One last question, nothing much to do with music. Would You be able to kill a man? What do You think of serial killers?
All of us have instincts, we're not able to predict some of our reactions in different moments... I think that if the situation would push me to the limits and if my life or the life of the ones closest to me would be endangered, I think I could. But I'm telling that it would have to be a very extreme situation, where the instincts take control over the mind.... serial killers, those are guys pathological minds, maniacs deserving the ultimate punishment.
Time to say goodbye...
Thank you very much for the interview and see you on our concerts
Stay lunatic!
........................await "Dimness' Profound"!
